How to Maintain Balayage Between Salon Visits

Balayage is prized for its soft, sun-kissed grow-out, but that low-maintenance look still needs the right at-home care to stay looking its best. Here's how to protect your investment between visits to Certified Vixen.

Use Color-Safe, Sulfate-Free Shampoo
Sulfates strip color and moisture from your hair, which can dull your balayage faster than it should fade naturally. We recommend Davines' color-safe formulas, which we use and sell in-salon, to help lock in tone and shine.
Wash Less, Condition More
Balayage women can typically stretch washes to two or three times a week. Between washes, a lightweight dry shampoo keeps roots fresh while a weekly deep conditioning treatment (like K18) keeps ends healthy and strong.
Protect Against Sun and Salt
Solana Beach living means sun and saltwater exposure year-round. Both can turn cool-toned balayage brassy. A leave-in UV protectant and a rinse with fresh water after ocean swims go a long way toward preserving your tone.
Book a Gloss Refresh
A gloss treatment between full color appointments restores shine and corrects any unwanted warmth, keeping your balayage looking freshly done for weeks longer. Most women book a gloss every 6-8 weeks.
Use sulfate-free, color-safe shampoo and conditioner
Limit washing to 2-3 times per week
Apply a UV protectant before sun exposure
Rinse hair after swimming in the ocean or pool
Schedule a gloss refresh every 6-8 weeks
